I enjoyed this book immensely. Compared to the first in the series (Soul Identity), this book feels more realistic. The re-telling of the Nazi world, and those that have to live with the aftermath drew me in.
The first section of the book deals with re-telling the story of how gold was kept hidden which had belonged to a Nazi commander being put to trial in 1946. There is a back and forth between the past and the present where we read about the events that makes you feel like blinking will make you miss too much action. If this book were put on tape, you would feel as if you were right there experiencing it along with the characters. I have to give Dennis his props here. Very well done.
The second section of the book concentrates more on “Soul Indenty” as a business and the measures they take to get the gold back. I was by this point invested in the book, and while I enjoyed it, there were moments where I felt myself saying “Come ON!” Things were just too neatly tied up and some things didn’t ring true, even in the made up book world. This becomes that much more obvious as the first part of the book reads like history. Having said that though, it is action packed and keeps you in the moment.
I noticed that that were sections in the beginning of this book that referred to things that happened in the first book. (It is part of a series after-all). However, after you get past the first couple of pages, this could turn into a stand alone book as enough is explained that you wouldn’t be left clueless.
I would recommend this book to those who like adventure, a bit of memoir, and mystery. It was nicely written to the point that there were not huge, or even mediocre, editing issues and the flow was smooth. I very much look forward to the third installment in the series.
